Hope is a member of the ELCA. As members we believe that, in our baptism, God has given us new life in Christ. As members of Christ's body -- the church -- we live that new life
daily in our congregations, synods, church-wide organizations and wherever God's work is being done.
More than 5.2 million of us belong to over 11,000 congregations, making the ELCA the fifth largest
Christian Protestant denomination in the United States. Our congregations, located in 65 synods, support church wide ministries done on their behalf throughout the United States and globally.
We're known for:
- our affiliated Lutheran social ministry organizations that serve hundreds of thousands of people from infants to older adults and form one of the largest nonprofit service networks in United States;
- our 29 nationally acclaimed colleges and universities and the eight seminaries that prepare our leaders for ministry;
- our immigration and refugee placement services and disaster relief work;
- international projects of care, service, witness and justice in partnership with 114 churches of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) and with our U.S. partner, Lutheran World Relief.
