Sunday Morning Adult Classes
The “Living as Lutherans Today” class is led by Stephanie Herrle and Becky Havlisch and will continue through the spring. This class deals with the “hot topics” that are facing Christians today. The class meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30am in the Family Center.
The other adult class offered on a Sunday morning is an informal discussion on how the morning’s scripture reading might apply to your everyday life. Discussion includes the background of the text, how it connects to daily life, and suggestions for applying these ideas to your life. Adults of all ages and levels of bible knowledge are welcome. This class meets Sunday mornings at 9:40am in the Office Classroom
Mary’s & Martha’s Women’s Group
(or m-n-m’s as they like to be called)
This group of warm and wonderful women meets every Tuesday night at Panera Bread at Halsted and Twelve Mile Roads in Farmington Hills for bible study, conversation, and support.
They focus their studies on getting to know Jesus better. The nights range from straight bible study (they recently completed a study of the Gospel of John), to video study that includes watching a speaker on video and working with a related study guide (ie: Beth Moore), to books on various topics.
They like staying on topic, but they do have time for any needs that may arise, and allow opportunity for those who need support to find it.
They start at 7:00pm and run till about 9:00pm, but people sometimes come early to have dinner, and of course there are always coffee and goodies.
Wednesday Morning Bible Study
The Wednesday morning adult bible study group meets on Wednesday in the Narthex at 10:00am. Pastor Brad will continue leading the class in studying “Islam”. The format of this study is such, that even if you have not been able to be part of it yet, you can jump right in and join the conversation. This group of adults enjoys coffee, fellowship, bible study, and a whole lot of laughs, and would enjoy new opinions and insights to mix things up!
Wednesday Evening Bible Study
Pastor Brad is teaching a Wednesday evening bible study for adults from 6:30-7:45pm. Based upon the Crossways materials that have been developed by Pastor Harry Wendt, it’s a walk through the Old Testament, intertestamental period and New Testament, learning important stories in the bible and how they fit into the overall story of God’s creative and redeeming work on behalf of all people and the world we inhabit. This course will help all of us become more fluent with the first language of our faith-the language of scripture.
Men’s Monday Night Basketball
All men of Hope, age 15 and up are invited to gather each Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00pm to play basketball in the Family Center. Enjoy some exercise and get to know other members of Hope you might not get to know otherwise.
“Life in Progress”- Men of Hope Fellowship Group
Pastor Brad and several other men of Hope rise early for a morning of coffee and fellowship as they share not only what it means to be Christian men in today’s world, but as they discuss “Life in Progress.” They meet the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 6:00am in Hope’s Narthex.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry Group
The Prayer Shawl Ministry is a group of women who knit and crochet shawls (for prayer), blankets (for baptisms), and scarves (for graduating seniors). The group meets the first Saturday of each month from 9:00-11:00am. The level of experience with knitting or crocheting does not matter and we have easy patterns for you to begin, or you may create your own!
The Lap Quilt Ministry Group
The Lap Quilt Ministry is a group of women and men that cut, sew and assemble cotton lap quilts for those in nursing homes, hospitals, and for our Alternative Christmas Fair fundraiser to benefit Project Compassion Ministries in Detroit. The group meets at 10:00am-12:00pm the first Saturday of each month. You can still help even if you have no sewing talents. If you are unable to attend the meetings but would like to work on lap quilts at home, please contact the church office.
Moms of Hope Ministry
This newly created group is offered to all moms with children eighteen years old or younger. Their mission statement is to “Offer moms of all ages a chance to get together for Christian fellowship, growing existing or new friendships within Hope's community, grow spiritually, and encourage each other through sharing mothering experiences.” This group believes that there is strength in being in community with other mothers who share your beliefs.
The group plans one daytime and one evening activity per month, on different days and different times to enable more participation. Each event is planned by a member of the group, and may consist of speakers, discussions, mom’s day/night out, play dates, service projects and family events.
Small Group Ministry Team
This group of men and women work hard to make sure that everyone who attends Hope is connected to a small group in some way. Their newest initiative is to welcome new members and make sure that they get plugged in and feel welcome in our community. They have created an “Opportunities at Hope” booklet that each member can find at the Welcome Desk.
There are other small groups that can be found on the Service Ministry page of this website.
