Baptism Format at Hope

Baptisms are conducted by Hope's Pastor on the first Sunday of each month during one or more of the worship services.

The baptismal font at Hope is located right as you enter the sanctuary.  It is placed right in the center of the main aisle to purposefully serve as a reminder that each baptized person is a child of God.

For those who have not seen a baptism at Hope, here is a summary of a typical Hope baptism:

Song for Baptism:  The congregation will sing a song to honor the one to be baptized and to thank God for baptisms!

Scripture:  Hope's Pastor will read the scripture, Mark 10:13-16.  To listen, click on the icon to the left.

Theology of Baptism:  The Pastor explains how in baptism, we are reborn children of God and inheritors of eternal life.

Parental Vows:   If a small baby or child is baptized, the parents vow to faithfully teach their child about Jesus and the Holy Scriptures and to instruct them in how to lead a life filled with Christian faith.

Apostles' Creed:   The pastors lead the congregation in the Apostles' Creed where we profess our faith in God as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The actual baptism takes place, where the Pastor baptizes the person in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Prayer: The Pastor will say a prayer for the baptized child of God.

Anoiting and Sign of the Cross: Here, the Pastor will take some oil and seal the baptized one with the sign of the cross.

Giving of the Light:   A candle is lit to symbolize the event.  This occasions is oftened referred to as a baptismal birthday and parents are asked to bring out this candle at each birthday as a rememberance of this significant event.  Click on the icon to the left to hear more.

Baptismal Acclamation:  The congregation joins the Pastor in singing a song of celebration to the baptized one.

Official Welcome:  The Pastor will carry the infant or walk with the youth/adult up and back through the main aisle of the sanctuary while welcoming a new brother or sister in Christ to the Hope family.
