WHY DO LUTHERAN CHRISTIANS BAPTIZE? We baptize, quite simply, because Jesus commands us to do so. In Matthew 28:16-20, Jesus
told his disciples to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. When people of whatever age are baptized, the journey of Christian discipleship
begins.
WHAT HAPPENS IN BAPTISM? When a person is baptized, whether as an
infant, teenager, or adult, (s)he becomes a member of the Christian community. As a member of this community, a newly baptized persons joins with other
baptized Christians in living as disciples of Jesus Christ. As disciples of Jesus Christ, baptized people understand that their sins are forgiven, they live in a relationship with a loving God, and they are called to model their lives after Jesus.
WHEN ARE PEOPLE BAPTIZED AT HOPE?
Because baptism makes a person part of the Christian community, almost every baptism at Hope happens during Sunday morning worship. As we welcome people to the Christian community through baptism, we celebrate with
them, their families and friends. For more information about baptism at Hope, click on the following links: |
