Every worship service at Hope begins with a silent prayer for the day.  Here are a sampling of some of Hope's silent prayers:

Gracious and loving God, you love us and claim us like mothers and fathers love their own children.  Through Jesus Christ, you have chosen us, adopted us, and given us a great inheritance.  Help us, your children, to sense that we are in a living relationship with you.  By your spirit, inspire us to share the spirit of our adoption with the lost and lonely ones.  We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.

Lord God, teach us the grace to look less at ourselves and more at you.  Give us the ability to fell less of our own aches and pain, and more the suffering of others.  Teach us to take ourselves less seriously, and you and your will for us more seriously.  Amen.

Gracious and generous God, your have blessed your people with a wide variety of spiritual gifts.  By your Holy Spirit, open our minds to understand them, inspire us to use them and help us to develop them.  We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.

Almighty God, your know our struggles and temptations in this world.  Give us the strength and motivation to persevere against semmingly overwhelming odds.  Enable us to be a community of people who shepherd other in the same way that you guide and protect us, through Jesus Christ, your loving son, and our Savior.  Amen .

O gracious Lord, you have made us your children in baptism.  During this Lenten journey, help us to learn to live as your disciples.  Forgive us for those times when we follow our own paths, and help us to reorient our lives toward you.  Through Jesus Christ, you son, our Lord.  Amen.

Gracious God, you have promised that your are present in our midst when as few as two or three are gathered in your name.  As we gather for worship this day, bless us with your presence, your truth, and your love.  In Jesus' name, Amen.

Gracious and compassionate God, you provide for our every need and we are grateful.  Give us eyes to see the needs of your people.  Give us ears to hear the cries of the hungry.  Give us hands to feed those who are so very close to us.  Give us hearts to pray for those who are hungry around the world.  In Jesus' name.  Amen.

O Lord, the storms of life rage around us and threaten to overcome us.  As we come into this sanctuary, a place of refuge from the storm, help us to fix our gaze on the cross, a sign of hope, love and security.  As we leave today, give us the faith to follow you wherever you might lead us, trusting that you will take us by the hand and guide us safely through any storms we might encounter along the way.  In your name we pray.  Amen.

O God, give us your ears to hear and hearts to receive your powerful Word.  Quicken your Word in us that it might root itself deeply and grow to bear much fruit in our lives.  Empower us to be your people, who have the courage and conviction to speak your word boldly.  In Jesus name we pray.  Amen.

Almighty God, you have called us to be your children and your messengers to the world.  Send you Spirit into our lives to enable us to respond to your call.  Give us the strength to overcome the challenges of that call.  Grant us grace and mercy for those moments when we fail to follow faithfully.  And help us to renew our strength and purpose through the gifts of Baptism and Holy Communion, which we will experience today in worship.  Through your son Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen
