The war on Christmas
There is an interesting article in the December 21 edition of Time magazine.  It's called, "Brief History of the War on Christmas".

In this article Alex Altman notes that in a 2006 edition of the Chicago Tribune, 68% of respondents said that the Christmas holiday was under assault.

From there, Altman notes that "the last to wage war on Christmas were probably the Puritans, who in the 17th century banned Yuletide festivities on the ground that they didn't square with Scripture.  For a godless conspiracy, those are some pious roots."

Altman's point is an important one.  Instead of wasting time and energy on the so-called war on Christmas, which does nothing more than distract us and feed the media machine that wants us to worry about such silliness, we simply ought to come to church on Christmas Eve, wish those we meet along the way a blessed Christmas and turn off the noise.

I don''t think of it so much of as a "war on Christmas" but rather as a weariness we all feel as the Christmas shopping season continually expands. It is developing a knee-jerk reaction leading to people wanting to see less of Christmas.
